Abby Dahlkemper's Neutral Closet
Someone’s closet can tell you a lot about them. Not in a judgmental way, but just in a thought-process type of way. The way you choose to dress and represent yourself can be like a window into your personality or mood or self-image. I completely respect everyone’s choice of clothing and style, but that doesn’t mean that I supported Sam’s decision to buy high-waisted bright orange patterned shorts from Anthropologie last weekend. She walked out of the dressing room holding them with a lit-up expression on her face and I just silently prayed she would put them back. She didn’t.
My boyfriend recently told me that he thinks my style is grungy goth (lol). I am a firm believer in neutral based colors. Regardless of what article of clothing I decide to wear on any given day, whether it be a black turtleneck or a dark grey razor back tank, I will never have trouble pairing items. How easy is that? Black goes with gray, gray goes with white, white goes with black, denim goes with everything. Call it what you want, but I'm pretty sure I have worn my favorite black t shirt that takes the shape of a wide box 97 times and I love it just as much as the day I got it.
I am all for deals and sales. Thrift stores are pretty cool too, but if there is a quality plain soft black crew neck t-shirt that I cant put down, I will spend money on it. My theory is that it will go with everything and if I wear it 60 times it'll be worth that price.
So basically, my style is comfy, casual, and neutral with undertones of “grungy goth.” Sam’s is either trash bag left out in the rain or your hippie aunt at Woodstock in 1975. To each their own.
