Playing for Pride
This NWSL season, I’ll be Playing for Pride in collaboration with a movement started by North Carolina FC’s Austin da Luz. Austin started Playing for Pride in order to raise money and spread awareness of LGBTQ rights, especially in North Carolina. He is donating all of the money raised this season to the Human Rights Campaign.
What’s my role, exactly? To mirror Austin, I’ll be donating money for each game of the NWSL season. I’ll donate according to my own performance- $2 for every game played, $3 for every game that I start, $4 for every assist, and $5 for every goal. What I ask is that you match me every week by donating to the Playing for Pride CrowdRise fundraiser.
I decided to join this cause immediately when I heard about what Austin wanted to do. I had been wondering if there was a positive way for me to demonstrate that I fully support the rights of the LGBTQ community. Austin’s message fell into my lap and I knew that Playing for Pride was something that I really wanted to get involved in. I’m really excited to be joining the team and becoming a member of a community that is so passionate about equality.
The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization. They fight for the rights of LGBTQ people everywhere. Check out their website here.
