Game of the Week: Week 3
This week's Game of the Week.... USA vs Norway women's national soccer teams!!!
Hey guys! For most of our readers, we know how special this week is, because we finally get to see some National Team games! Our very own Sam has made the trip overseas with the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) this week for friendly matches versus Sweden and Norway.
Sunday, June 11th the gals will be playing at 1:00PM EST and you can tune in to watch with us on Fox! With a new head coach of Norway, Martin Sjögren, and the hype of a tough friendly opponent for the US, this is a game you won’t want to miss.
There is a very historic rivalry between Norway and the USA. Norway and the US are two of the four countries to ever win the Women’s World Cup. Norway historically has had the most success out of any other team when it comes to playing the United States, by having beat them 19 times. However, the United States has gotten the best of Norway 28 times, and has beat Norway in all of their most recent matches together (2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015). As if the history lesson that comes along with this game isn’t enough, this match-up will be the 50th of the US and Norway too!
Most of the US women traveling will be faced with the challenge of a big time change, except for Carli Lloyd and Crystal Dunn who are used to the timezone in Europe from playing in their professional leagues. The roster features the first call-up for Abby Smith, goalkeeper of the Boston Breakers, call-ups for some of our guest writers including Abby Dahlkemper (NC Courage) and Rose Lavelle (Boston Breakers), as well as the return of Sydney Leroux (FC Kansas City) who hasn’t played with the National Team since January of 2016 due to pregnancy. I think her son has made a great addition to the roster as well. Looks like Sam agrees…
As history has shown us about these two opponents, we know this game is going to be a good one. Tune in with us on Sunday at 1 for a great match-up!
